I have a passion for collecting antique English silver book chains and lockets and have amassed quite a collection over the years. This one is from my personal collection, a gorgeous example from the Victorian era. The collar is unique in design, labor intensive with a stunning locket including English hallmarks, both in excellent condition. 
 
The silver collar has beautiful engraved floral designs at 11mm wide and measuring at a length of 16.5" without counting the extender. The book chain has both bolt rings original to the period and another section as the locket extender drop(total length of 17.5"), original to the piece. If you have been looking to collect one of these beautiful pieces, you know how difficult it is to find one of these with both the bolt rings not to mention finding one with the extender in tact. Often times, these book chains due to their age have some flattened links, this one has none and truly is in remarkable condition, obviously very well cared for and belonged to a grand lady at one time. 
 
The beautifully ornate locket measures at 1.75" by 1&3/8" not including the original blown, articulating bail, with the bail it is 2.25". The locket's engraved details, depicts lovely florals and greenery with rose gold and yellow gold overlay. It is in excellent condition, with a couple of minuscule dings and scratches to the back and does not affect the wearability being in the back and is in quite remarkable condition considering its age. It is hallmarked for Sterling Birmingham (anchor), and a maker's mark of DALB, the date letter has mostly been rubbed out and is only partially visible, circa 1880's. Both retaining rings are intact, no glass, hinge is in excellent condition and locket closes with a snap. 
 
The collar is unmarked which is typical, but tested to be sterling silver. A remarkable versatile piece of accessory in history and can be worn with or without the extender as pictured in the photos. Both pieces together weigh at a hefty 46 grams total.
